Athens is the capital of Greece, birthplace of the Greek Empire and Greek God. Home to rich history, ancient architecture & archaeological sites. You will be charmed by this little city, a combination of old and new. Summer will be the best time to visit. Though I only had a day in Athens, I did say I covered quite a lot. Went on a self walking tour (mentioned below) and spent my evening chilling at a nice al fresco restaurant. Best trip of my life! I have never thought I would visit Greece so soon. I was rostered to Athens on my 7th flight! It was a seasonal and rare flight and I was lucky to even get it. My first ever Europe trip. I got to experience what this job feels like and met the most fantastic crew who became one of my closest friends. They are the only set of crew that I still meet up back at home. You can also do a Walking Tour around the Acropolis (thats what I did): 1. Acropolis Museum (artifacts) 2. Theater of Dionysus - theather for play performances 3. Odeon of Herodes Atticus (post cover photo) - amphitheater for music and plays 4. Temple of Athena Nike 5. Propylaea - monumental gateway to the Acropolis 6. Erechtheum 7. Parthenon (the world famous structure you see - on top of the Acropolis) To reach to other parts of Greece, their bus, tram and metro are quite easily accessible. Else if you are too lazy, just take a cab (though they will try to give you a fixed price - try to make them use the meter pricing).
Attractions: Acropolis Temple of Olympian Zeus Parthenon Poseidon Temple The Pnyx Plato Academy Ancient Agora Hadrian's Arch Plaka - Historical centre, alleys & labyrinthine streets Psirri - Center of Athens' nightlife Monastiraki - shopping district. Flea market. Restaurants and cafes. Old Athens. Piraeus - biggest port (where we took a ferry back from Santorini) It has a really nice town around the port. Worth going! Glfyada - little marina suburb Lycabettus Hill - peak to see the whole of Athens from above. Really nice view! Vouliagmeni - beautiful coastal area out of Athens
